Many people ask me what it’s like on a cruise, is it expensive, are there only rich Americans with blue hair, etc. The answer is no, for me a cruise is a fantastic way to “sample” different places, but you don’t have the stress of traveling from place to place. What’s not to love?π€
The first time we tried a cruise, it was a classic cruise in the Caribbean. Chalk white beaches against azure sea, sun and umbrella drinks. This will always be my favorite, precisely because it topped all my expectations. During the day you experienced wonderful places, and in the evening it was great food, cuddles by the pool and entertainment.
The second time we were on a cruise was in the Mediterranean. Barcelona, ββRome, Dubrovnik, Sicily and more. This was a slightly different holiday because there was so much to see in the different places. It was fun, but sometimes I missed the feeling of just chilling on a beach without having to hit anything. Just enjoy the moment!
The third time we were on a cruise was in the Baltic Sea. Stockholm, Helsinki, St.Petersburg and Tallinn were on the programme. And it was a wonderful trip! It was particularly exotic to come to St. Petersburg, where I had not been before. And the food, in Tallinn we got to try both beaver and bear! But the weather was a little grayer and sadder this time.
The fourth time we went on a cruise was once again the Caribbean, but this time we left from Colombia. Now we also tried a new cruise company, Royal Carribbean. The trip went to the ABC islands, as well as Panama. Incredibly nice destinations, and generally very good cruises. But for the first time I have experienced seasickness, and it is probably because we got cabins at the very front and bottom of the boat. I hadn’t thought of that before, but you were also exposed to a lot of noise early in the morning when the ship docked.
So in summary, here are my tips for the cruise:
- Choose a cruise from the destinations you want to visit. Almost all cruise ships have good food, entertainment and facilities.
- Make sure you don’t get a cabin at the very front and bottom of the boat.
- Ask to get the same table for dinner in the evening, getting to know the waiter is one of the funnest memories we have from these trips.
- Participate in activities such as quizzes, concerts and competitions. It becomes a separate environment on the boat, and after a few hours you get to know the other passengers.
- Check the price of excursions if there is a lot you want to see at a destination. In my experience, there is nothing much more expensive than getting around on your own.
